Google My Business: Getting Your Business On Google
September 17, 2018

If you’re looking for a new restaurant, store or service, chances are one of the first places you’ll look is Google. If you are the one with a business or are marketing your services online, however, it can be easy to get lost in the billions of other pages and websites that Google searches through. So how do you make it easy for potential customers to find you? Whether you’d call yourself “techy” or not, here are some simple tips to get your website more clicks through Google My Business.

1. Get the Right Tools

Google My Business is your one-stop shop to putting your business on Google and all its platforms, including Google Maps. Once you’re registered, Google will mail you a card to verify your address. You can update your business hours online, post pictures and reply to customer comments and questions as well. It also gives you the data on how people are getting to your site, allowing you to make informed decisions on your marketing tactics. If you don’t have a website, it will help get you started on that too. The best part? It’s free!

2. Register Your Site

Search engines at Google are busy crawling the web looking for new pages and sites to index in their systems. That way, when people search for something, Google pulls up the related pages it has indexed. When you create a website or page, it can take a while for Google to find and index it, so speed up this process by registering your site or page. You can also do this when you make changes to your website to make sure that Google has the most recent version ready to show searchers.

3. Optimize Your Content

Web pages that are focused on one topic are more likely to come up when people search for that topic than pages that have multiple unrelated topics. Make sure your pages are organized in clean, easy-to-use ways. Pick a few key words for each page and work them into your title and content. Always keep the content fresh and updated — this will keep your readers returning and your page at the top of Google’s list.

Whether you’re an owner of a large company, a new startup or are just trying to get your name and skills out there, being visible on Google is important for potential customers to be able to find you. There are even more tips and tricks to doing this, and you can learn them from a Google-certified trainer at our upcoming Google My Business Workshop.
