Meridian Selected one of Oklahoma’s Top Workplaces
December 8, 2015

Meridian Technology Center has something to celebrate.

For the second year in a row, The Oklahoman has recognized the school as one of the Top Workplaces in Oklahoma. In 2013, Meridian was honored with a Best Places to Work in Oklahoma designation from OKC BIZ.

The center’s 100 plus employees will tell you that their motivation is knowing they are doing what is right for the people they serve and for each other.

Financial Aid Officer Gayle Bates said that one of the best things about working at Meridian is knowing that all employees have the opportunity to play a role in changing the lives of the students and clients the school serves.

“It’s really about the satisfaction that others get from what we do here,” she explained. “A lot of students come to Meridian to make a change in their lives. When they come here and complete a program you can literally see a boost in their self-confidence. No matter what role a person has at Meridian, we have all played a part in that.”

Students and clients aren’t the only ones who benefit from Meridian’s culture of continuous improvement. Feedback received from the 2014 Top Workplaces survey prompted Meridian Technology Center to expand professional development opportunities for staff members. With the addition of campus-wide Strengths-based Gallup assessments, staff members had the opportunity to identify their natural talents and have spent the year exploring ways to maximize them through various committees across campus.

Pre-Engineering instructor Mark Thomas indicated that he believes this philosophy is what makes Meridian Technology Center a top place to Work in Oklahoma. “We’re empowered to develop our own talents as well as foster those of our students,” he said. “Professional development for staff is not only supported by administration, it is expected.”

The Top Workplaces designations are based solely on employee feedback. Meridian employees completed a survey that was created by WorkplaceDynamics, LLP, a leading research firm on organizational health and employee engagement. Employees were asked to evaluate the company’s direction, execution of ideas, connectedness to the organization, role satisfaction, supervision and employee benefits.

“It’s an honor to be selected once again as one of Oklahoma’s Top Workplaces,” said Superintendent/CEO Dr. Douglas R. Major. “Our mission of providing customized education and training services for individuals, industries and communities is meaningful and our employees take great pride in striving to fulfill our mission daily. Continuous improvement is a priority for everyone at Meridian. We want to be better for the people we serve and the people we serve with.”
