Roll-2-Roll Technologies Set to Launch New Technology This September
August 27, 2015

The creation of new jobs for Stillwater and the ability for manufacturers to save time and money are a few of the benefits consumers will notice when Roll-2-Roll Technologies showcases their new technology this September.

The technology, ARIS, is a lateral web guide developed with input from companies within the targeted industries. These industries include, packaging and labeling, nonwoven materials such as baby wipes, and flexible printed electronics displays for products like solar panels.

“This technology brings innovation in sensing, control and added intelligence that will change our industry,” co-founder Aravind Seshadri said.

Common issues in the industry include wasted material because of misalignment, complicated machine setup and challenges when material is changed over resulting in production line downtime. For companies that purchase the technology, ARIS doesn’t require additional setup time and is as simple as plugging in the machine.

Roll-2-Roll Technologies, an Oklahoma State University spin-off located in Stillwater, will launch the product in early September.

“We have finished product development and are testing the guiding system with a few customers,” Seshadri said. “With successful customer validation we will expand our production capabilities and roll out the product to a broader market.”

Velasco said the next step is to focus on developing products and services to complement ARIS.

“The sensor and control technology have industrial usage beyond guiding, and we plan on working to develop products based on this technology,” Velasco said. “These advancements will help our customers monitor and assess their production process efficiency and productivity.”

The benefits of the new technology extend beyond the Roll-2-Roll customer base to the Stillwater economy.

“We estimate the creation of an additional 5 to 10 jobs within the next five years, mostly technical jobs,” Chief Operating Officer Pedro Velasco said. “Aside from that, there are contractors around the area benefiting from this. One of the best things is that we are building up the high-tech industry here.”

Roll-2-Roll, a company that developed from research started at Oklahoma State University, is unveiling a product that is the result of 10 years of research and development and the skills from a team with more than 30 years of industry experience.

Housed in the Center for Business Development at Meridian Technology, the company’s corporate office is poised for growth using the built-in support system that comes with a business incubator. With services including management guidance, technical assistance and consulting tailored to young companies, the Center is a logical fit for Roll-2-Roll to call home.
