High School Equivalency
Students enroll in the HSE prep courses at Meridian to prepare for the HSE certification exams such as the GED or HiSET. This is the equivalent to a high school diploma and can open the door for students applying for a job or seeking further education. Students take a pre-test to determine their academic levels in math, reading and language. Based on their results, they study to advance to the next level and build toward taking the GED or HiSET. Classes are self-paced and offered at no cost; however, there is a fee to take the exam.
Once you obtain your GED or HiSET, you can continue your education in one of Meridian’s career training programs. Adult students typically spend one year at Meridian when they attend class full-time and two years at Tech when they attend part-time.
Meridian’s Main Campus in Stillwater
Monday and Wednesday | 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday | 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. | 12:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Free transportation from a district high school is available for afternoon classes. Use entrance 2 and park in parking lot B. Enter through door B3.
Meridian’s South Campus in Guthrie
Tuesday and Thursday | 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Perry Local Learning
Monday and Wednesday | 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Classes are funded by state and federal funds through the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education.

High School Equivalancy FAQ
You may hear people refer to our HSE prep courses as “GED classes.” The GED is a brand of the High School Equivalency (HSE) test. Students enroll in the HSE prep courses at Meridian to prepare for the HSE certification exams.
Someone who did not graduate from high school may wish to take a high school equivalency exam, which helps demonstrate their knowledge. There are two options – the GED or the HiSET.
After registering, students are given a pre-assessment exam that helps instructors determine a student’s level of knowledge in subjects such as math, reading and language arts in order to best help them learn.
Throughout the process, you are given one-on-one instruction and the program fits your unique needs and goals. You can complete the program at your own pace.
Students can use this program to achieve their next goal in life whether that is continued education or a career. The programs at Tech use a combination of group learning activities, one-on-one instruction and “extra advantage” virtual programs that provide guidance on campus or at home to make sure students have every opportunity to learn in a way that works for them.
Meridian’s HSE classes serve those who have not completed a high school education but want the equivalent knowledge and certification. Upon receiving their HSE certification, students will be prepared to continue their educational and career goals.
The prep classes are offered at no cost. The GED tests are $41 per subject or $164 for all four tests.
