Qualifications

Master’s Degree with Oklahoma School Counseling Certification required.

 

LPC licensing preferred.

 

A minimum of three years of successful experience in teaching and counseling is preferred.

 

Special education certification preferred.

 

Experience in career and technology education preferred.

 

Career guidance and assessment experience preferred.

 

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Specifically, Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, and PowerPoint).

 

Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision and direction.

 

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

 

Ability to excel in a fast-paced work environment by prioritizing tasks and projects.

 

Must be able to consistently deliver superior customer service and work quality to internal and external customers.

Essential Job Functions

 

  1. Coordinates and assists with student recruitment and enrollment, including assessment of student needs, interests and abilities, Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and 504s, career advisement, guidance, counseling and career planning/career development.

 

  1. Maintains student waitlists and ensures equitable student representation in programs.

 

  1. Assists in the implementation of strategies for the recruitment of high school and adult students.

 

  1. Promotes student success and instructor support by assisting in monitoring student progress, satisfaction, attendance, academic progress, and other factors impacting student performance.

 

  1. Provides student guidance, counseling, and crisis intervention assistance to aid students in determining options.

 

  1. Develops and maintains community relationships and partnerships with schools, community-based organizations, and civic groups to promote Meridian Technology Center’s services, student graduates, and involvement with their organizations.

 

  1. Maintains a shared responsibility with other advisors for the Career Planning Center, “walk-in” assistance and advisement/counseling coverage, and other ongoing department operations and activities.

 

  1. Maintains proficiency with career counseling field and initiatives.

 

  1. Select, administer and interpret career and academic assessments for students and prospective students.

 

  1. Make presentations to Meridian Technology Center (MTC) students and local area students to provide information regarding career training opportunities at MTC.

 

  1. Attend and actively participate in required staff meetings.

 

  1. Advise campus administrators, counselors, instructors, and support staff regarding legal/IEP issues of currently enrolled students. Provide any technical assistance regarding individuals with disabilities to remain in compliance.

 

  1. Assure MTC is represented at IEP and other relevant conferences for current students to ensure appropriate placement and documentation pertinent to the student’s needs and current laws.

 

  1. Serve as a liaison with partner high schools regarding services for current and potential students with special needs. Work with IEP team members at partner high schools to assist in developing Individual Education Programs (IEPs) for identified students.

 

  1. Work with instructors to assist students who are having learning difficulties by providing guidance as needed.

 

  1. Collaborate with campus administrators, counselors, and instructors on discipline, academic, and behavioral issues related to individuals with disabilities as they relate to state and federal laws to assure compliance.

 

  1. Ensure that all students with disabilities are identified and that the appropriate administrators and instructors are aware of these students’ needs.

 

  1. Remain current on new products and services in assessment, career guidance, and disability accommodations. Facilitate the obtaining of specialized assistance for individuals with disabilities as necessary in order to remain in compliance.

 

  1. Ensure the quality and confidentiality of all services provided.

 

  1. Ensure that all legal requirements for IEPs and Section 504 plans are met.

 

  1. Work with MTC instructors to make appropriate modifications and accommodations for all students with disabilities.

 

  1. Provide necessary update training/information on IEPs and Section 504 plans for instructors and staff.

 

  1. Ensure that student information files are complete and well documented.

 

  1. Monitor the progress and success of each students with disabilities regarding grades and attendance, and take appropriate actions when a student is not maintaining satisfactory progress.

 

  1. Abide by all policies and procedures adopted by the MTC Board of Education.

  1. Complete other tasks or projects as requested by the Superintendent and/or Executive Director, Career Planning/Career Development.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Must be able to lift and/or push items occasionally on a dolly or cart weighing as much as 30 pounds.

Standards of Performance

The Career Counselor/Special Services Coordinator will be evaluated on the previously listed responsibilities based on MTC’s Performance Review Guidelines.  These evaluations will determine salary increases and career advancement possibilities.
