STEM Academy Instructor, Biomedical Sciences

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree with a Secondary Teacher’s Certification in Biology is required and Chemistry is preferred.

 

The candidate must attend Project Lead The Way training required to teach Biomedical.

 

Three years of successful teaching experience preferred.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Teach Project Lead the Way Biomedical classes as assigned.

 

  1. Evaluate the accomplishments of students to ensure they are learning and retaining the theoretical and laboratory material.

 

  1. Maintain professional competence through participation in staff development, in-service education activities, and appropriate professional organizations.

 

  1. Participate in the planning and meeting of the Biomedical Sciences Business education Council to provide input into the relevance of curriculum and equipment used in the program, and meet with this committee formally at least once per school year. Informal meetings with members should take place monthly.

 

  1. Abide by all policies and procedures adopted by the Meridian Technology Center Board of Education and assist administration in the implementation of all policies and procedures governing student conduct.

 

  1. Attend all staff meetings called by the Superintendent and the Director of Instruction.

 

  1. Join and participate in professional and trade associations.

 

  1. Maintain records, prepare, and submit all reports required by the Superintendent, and the Director of Instruction in a timely manner.

 

  1. Support and implement the continuous improvement initiatives of the organization; such as Tools for Schools and Technology Centers That Work.

 

  1. Maintain accurate inventory records and closely monitor the use of inventory items in the program to prevent loss, damage, or theft.

 

  1. Be available in the program to assist students by 7:40 a.m. and 12:35 p.m. daily as well as after scheduled class time.

 

  1. Utilize assigned working hours (7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) efficiently and report to the Director of Instruction any exceptions.

 

  1. Promote Meridian Technology Center, its programs, and employees at every available opportunity, with specific responsibilities for recruitment and promotion of the Biomedical Program.

 

  1. Request and maintain up-to-date equipment that meets industry standards for relevant training of students.

 

  1. Serve as the advisor for relevant career and technology student organization.

 

  1. Arrange for maintenance of equipment as needed and when applicable to keep the equipment in top operating condition.

 

  1. Must be able to occasionally lift items such as equipment weighing as much as 25 pounds.

  1. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Director of Instruction.

 

Contract Length:

10-month position (August 1, 2024 – May 31, 2025)

Standards of Performance

The STEM Academy Instructor, Biomedical Sciences, will be evaluated on the previously listed responsibilities to determine satisfactory compliance and career advancement opportunities.
