Meridian Technology Center’s newest short-course offerings are the perfect way to invest in yourself this summer.
“Whether you’re interested in developing new skills for the workplace or if you just want a fun night out with your friends, we offer daytime and evening classes to meet those needs,” said Titus Lester, Meridian’s Coordinator of Adult and Training Development.
In addition to offering full-time career training for high school and adult students, customized business solutions for local industries, and assistance for budding entrepreneurs, Meridian also serves as a place where district residents can expand their skills and explore their interests.
Notable courses for summer 2021 include Forming an LLC, Creating Trusts, Security Guard and Defensive Driving. Several cooking classes will also be offered. Examples include Gluten-Free Bread, Kids Sushi, Cajun Cuisine, Canning Basics, Candymaking and Pies from Scratch. Cooking classes provide a hands-on demonstration and samples to take home.
“We have a wide variety of classes for people to explore in the next few months. We’re always looking for new course offerings and ways to improve the classes that we regularly teach. We try to make coming to Meridian for classes as easy as possible,” Lester said.
Drive into a New Career
There continues to be a shortage of bus drivers across Meridian’s district and throughout the state. Meridian will offer two School Bus Driver Training sessions this summer to help area schools fill those gaps.
The School Bus Driver Training course covers the rules, laws and safety standards and regulations for commercial vehicles with an emphasis on passenger endorsement. Upon completion, participants will be eligible to test for their Oklahoma Class B CDL license with the passenger and student endorsements.
“In just 36 hours, individuals can train for a new career,” Lester said.
Each semester Meridian offers hundreds of courses. Many of the professional development courses have classes during both the day and evening hours, while personal enrichment classes meet one or two nights a week. If time is a factor, online training is also available.
Meridian has a new set of classes each spring, summer and fall. For a complete listing of this semester’s courses visit meridiantech.edu/catalog. Register online at meridiantech.edu/shortcourses.
