In this hands-on program, students will have the opportunity to build the knowledge and skills required for a career as a Nurse Aide. You’ll learn the proper techniques to assist patients of all ages as they perform basic daily tasks that range from hygiene and grooming to helping patients walk, assisting wheelchair-bound patients, and transferring and transporting patients using safe assistive devices. You’ll also learn to take vital signs and perform CPR. Upon completion of this career major, you will be eligible to become certified as a Long-Term Care Nurse Aide and Home Heath Care Nurse Aide. Obtaining these certifications will prove you have the knowledge and skills needed to work as a Nurse Aide in hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living centers, hospice centers and home health agencies.
This career major is also a platform for those individuals who plan to enter the nursing field and meets all of the prerequisite requirements for Meridian’s practical nursing program. Completion may give students points on applications to and/or meet some prerequisite requirements for higher education health care programs. High school students can earn high school science credit upon successful completion of the anatomy course. ***Students must take Medical Core in addition to completing this healthcare specialty (Pre-Nursing/CNA/HHA) in order to graduate from Meridian Technology Center.
